I was born in Milan. After studies in foreign languages (English and French) I began my career in cinematography. After ten years of experience working within camera crews as focus puller and camera operator (Bernardo Bertolucci: “The Dreamers” and “Besieged”, Uli Edel: “Julius Caesar”, Ricky Tognazzi: “Canone Inverso”), I became a director of photography.

Grant Appleton


Cinematography has been a passion of Grant’s since he was a young boy. He has single-mindedly pursued nothing but the art of capturing the most striking and originally portrayed moving images onto film ever since.


Grant was independently headhunted to photograph some major commercial projects locally as well as abroad. His work on the short film ‘Tagging Toilets’ was awarded the VISIBLE SPECTRUM award from the South African Society of Cinematographers, making him the youngest cinematographer to ever receive this award. Grant also worked on the short film ‘Pumzi’ which won ‘Best Short Film’ at the Cannes Independent Film festival and made it into the official selection for Sundance. Recently he has worked as 2 nd Unit DoP on “Homeland S4” and the new pilot for “Strange New Things” an Amazon Prime show. He has also worked as a camera operator for many Hollywood studio’s namely Weinstein Co, Warner Bros, Universal Pictures, Fox 21 and Netflix Grant has shot all over the world in countries such as Spain, Kenya, Malaysia, Thailand, China, India, Singapore, Namibia and Mozambique.

His work includes the Nokia (global campaign), National Geographic Global Brand campaign, Total petroleum, Discovery Channel, USN, Kia, Adidas, and MTV all of which can be viewed on the site
